NEON LEGENDS - THE HISTORY OF A WORLD
Neon Legends... a project that has been almost 10 years in the making, everyone has a novel inside of them and Neon Legends is mine... even though it not going to be a novel... but that's not the point.
Neon Legends started way back in 1997 when I had no-where near as many plans, characters, or ideas for it (in fact about 75% of the stuff now in Neon Legends had never even entered my mind back in 1997).
However while this project has gained many things since it's original conception it has also lost a few things as well, however they weren't all that vital and have, for the most part, been replaced by things which are better and a vast improvement over what once was.
Back in 1997 I created a character, named Whiplash, who was a character designed to look and fit in with the world of Sonic the Hedgehog (being a huge Sonic fan and wanting my own fan character). He was a badger (as that is my favourite animal), and to my knowledge a character that hasn't been done in the world of Sonic fan characters before. However he wasn't a hero type character, oh no his initial incarnation was that of a bounty hunter.
However a year later in June 1998 I redesigned him, and transformed Whiplash from a crooked bounty hunter in the heroic Brocko, who was still a badger, but was now a hero. I also made the decision at this point to remove him from the Sonic universe, he was no longer a Sonic fan character as far as I was concerned. Thus I started working on a world for him to live in and an enemy for him to battle against. This didn't take too long to accomplish and soon I had not only created a world for Brocko to live in, but I had also created friends for him and multiple villains for him to battle against. At this time though I wanted to be a Video Game designer, so I had made everything for Brocko and his friends as if they were going to be video games, which at the time seemed like a brilliant idea, however this would come back to cause problems for me in the future.
As the years went on nothing much changed with the series, apart from the addition of new characters and some new items as well, some changes were influenced by certain games that had come out at the time, but most of that has now been dropped. However then in 2005 things took a drastic turn, I started to come up with more ideas, expanding the universe and making the story darker as well. The story kept on expanding at a rapid rate and soon I had planned out a huge story, I knew where it started who the main villain was and where the story would end, however I knew very little about what happened in between the beginning and the end apart from a few little things (and one major thing, but It didn't have a way to fit into the story at this point) so I really had to start working on it even harder, which I did and soon I had come up with many, many ideas which improved the story and filled the gap in the middle, but there still wasn't enough there yet.
Come 2006 and I took another major turn in my series, the anthropomorphic-animal characters that had been around since the beginning (at this point, almost 9 years!) were going be be scrapped, in favour of more human looking characters, as I felt that, if the characters looked more human it would be easier to connect with them and would allow me to easily make the story darker. Another reason was that I wanted to completely remove my characters from anything that could be mistaken as characters from the Sonic world. So with this done, the characters now human, I continued on with creating the story.
By this point I had abandoned the idea of my story being a game series and instead decided to write it as a story, which is the original reason for the development of the Ice Wars, I needed practice on writing a story and the Ice Wars were my learning grounds. However I soon realised something about writing this as a story and that was that people would see the world and characters how they imagined them, not as I had, as everyone has different view on things. So I decided that, while I would continue to write it as a novel first, I also needed a visual way for people to see my world... and then it hit me: 'I'll turn it into a manga!'. By turning it into a manga, everything would be drawn how I had seen it and everyone could see the world as I had designed it, which was exactly what I had wanted in the first place.
Now come 2007, the plot is fixed, I know how the story starts, what happens in the middle, who dies and how the story ends. Now all that was left was to flesh out the story, make it slightly deeper and also give the characters I had created unique personalities and attributes. Now that that, for the most part, has been sorted all I need to finish doing now is writing the story's plot out, from start to finish (which believe me, is fecking big!) and then work on learning how to draw in Manga style. Once I've done that Neon Legends will be well on it's way to becoming a reality, something I have been dreaming of for almost 10 years. In the past I came up with many different projects and ideas, but Neon Legends is the only one that has stuck and survived for 10 years, so I'm not about to let go of it anytime in the future. It'll be interesting to see where Neon Legends is in another 10 years time, as a lot can happen in a year.
Also as you may have gathered by now 'Neon Legends' is a temporary cover-up name that will not stick around permanently, in fact by the actual 10th Anniversary date this year I will revealing the projects real name. I just didn't want to reveal it yet cause I wanted to keep as much as I could secret, however if I'm going to be making the project into a reality I need to start getting it known about don't I?
