NEON LEGENDS - THE STORY
Project NL, for almost 10 years this has been my one major project that I have continually worked on, while others have come and gone this one has stayed. During it's 10 years the story has changed a fair bit, at times to fit in with the way it would be presented when finished (Game, Novel, Manga), however it has always continued to evolve but, to me at least, kept the original magic it had when I first started it.
The story takes place on a planet far away from our own (500,000 light-years to be exact), I did this for many reasons, but the main one was that because of the way I had originally designed the characters (they were designed in the Sonic style) I did not think it would make sense for the story to take place on Earth. So I created my own planet and, for some reason, called it Neon. This world was about 4 times bigger than earth, because this would allow me to put more into the world and have everything set out the way I wanted it to be, an earth sized planet felt too... restricting for me to use. However when I made the eventual choice to switch the characters to more human styled ones I decided that, where as I might be able to get rid of Neon and have my story set on earth, there were just too many things I had designed based around Neon's size that meant placing the story on earth would have become impossible for me to do, not without somehow shrinking the size of the islands and continents and thus ruining the feel of the sheer size of the planet. So I decided "What the hell? I'll keep it set on Neon! After all, what's the point of designing this place if I only ended up getting rid of it later?" So with that the story stayed place on Neon.
The story is, currently at least, divided up into 10 Arcs, with each of these story arc's dealing with something different, however they still all relate back to the main story. Each arc has a set reason for being in the story, and most of the time it falls into either one of two categories:
1) Plot advancement,
or
2) Character advancement
Both of these are essential parts for a story to progress and become better however I must admit at the time I didn't realise that this was the case, it's only as I'm writing this page that I have realised that the Arc's fall into these categories.
However while there are only 10 Arc's there is a possibility that it might end up expanding to become 13 Arc's instead, however that all depends upon what happens with some of the ideas I have. Currently they fit perfectly within the story, however as I have found before now, when you actually get to that part in the story something may no longer be needed, or even relevant, or something may in fact need to be moved to another place in the story, so while I still know everything that's going to happen, it all depends on how suitable it all becomes when I get to each part.
In terms of length this story is going to become huge, probably not the same length as say One Piece, but still very long, for me this is going to be a huge undertaking and I know this - I have always known this, but for some reason I stick with it. This story is not going to take me a short amount of time to complete, especially if I'm making it into a manga, however I will stick with it for as long as it takes until it is finished as I'm not going to abandon it now.
The story will probably start off pretty slow by most standards, however this is not because I planned it like that, but because currently it seems the only way in which I can start the story properly. However as the story progresses through the Arc's it picks up and definitely improves, it's just the start that's a little slow. The first couple of Arc's will see the story taking place on one of the islands in the area where Brocko and his friends live, however as the story goes on the group will travel to more places, and get away from their home islands (there's a reason why they can't, but that'll be revealed in the story). They end up traveling all of the world and this has some very interesting results, however it's not just Neon that they travel. The is something in my story called 'The path between', of which I will not reveal the specifics now, but simply state that it is something that helps them get to "the other side of the world'.
This story is mainly focused on the whole Light Vs Dark issue, that seems to be brought up by so many stories nowadays, however it also deals with a balance between the two with a few twists in it as well. Again this was never originally intended, it just kind of happened while I was further developing the story and it has made quite a few interesting additions to my story as well. However this story does have a lot of dark moments within it that really do cast a shadow over it, but it is all for the better of the story and helps to make it deeper. The difference between the story now and back when I first worked on it is huge as the original story was more happy, even with the dark events that happened in it, but now it has kept it's darkness and delved deeper, helping to give the story more substance and make it infinitely better as far as I'm concerned.
In future I will add more information on the story to this page, however for now (and while the story has not even been finished or shown online) this is all I am going to put on this page. As more work is done on the story (including eventual chapter releases on this site) I will add a lot more information to this page.
