– Chapter 1 : Eternal Slumber –
This is a story, about the events that happened on a planet that goes by the name of Neon. This world exists some 500,000 light-years away from our own Earth and it is the third planet in its solar system. However it is also roughly four times the size of Earth and it has two moons, which Orbit around it. One is simply a normal lifeless moon like our own, while the other would be able to support life though none exists on it. These moons are known as Ragon and Sudran respectively. The world of Neon has many old legends associated with it, however the thing about legends is that they have to have started somewhere. Legends start as facts, facts get forgotten, the remaining facts turn into myth and myth turns into legend. During this process many important things, that should not have been forgotten, are. This story is an example of what can happen when those facts, which should not have been forgotten, are.
THOSE SLEEPING AWAIT ONLY ONE THING…
The night was cool and there was not a single cloud in the sky to block out the stars that shone down brightly from within their eternal darkness. The two moons of the planet shone down their light, illuminating the land with a pale blue glow, making the scene look a little surreal. The wind was light, but chilling, ones breath could be seen when the wind did pickup.
On a mountain in the northern part of Sentren island two men were walking up a trail on the mountain. The pair walked in silence, as if there was nothing for either of them to discuss until they reached their destination. One of the men was a little over 6 feet in height, but was dressed in a long black coat, with a hood that obscured every part of him, that is except for a long bit a silver hair that flowed out of the left side of his hood. The second man was shorter, around 5 foot 4, and was wearing a long green rain coat that went all the way down to his boots, he had his hands drawn in front of his chest to try and keep himself warm. He was clearly an archaeologist as he was wearing a backpack that seemed to contain a variety of archaeological equipment within it. Finally the archaeologist spoke up,
‘So how much further up do you think it is?’
‘It is not much further… in fact it is just up ahead of us.’ Replied the other man.
‘Good, good. The sooner we get there the sooner I'll be able to see if you were right about what you say you found there.’ And with that the pair continued on, following the path, again in silence.
…THE TIME OF THEIR AWAKENING…
Somewhere, a long way away from the mountain where the two men were, another two men were about to meet.
The laboratory was dark and dusty, it was obvious from just one look that it had been abandoned a long, long time ago and that probably no one even knew that it existed now. However a single terminal had been reactivated and sitting in front of it was a lone figure. Suddenly a black tower shot out of the ground a few feet away from the man, however he did not flinch or move at all in fact, as if he hadn't noticed a thing. As the tower vanished another man was now standing in its place, again this did not shock the man at all, in fact it was almost as if he had been expecting this second man to arrive…
‘You’re late… I was expecting you over three hours ago.’ Commented the man in the chair, without turning around.
‘Sorry, but I got held up… he’s not as easy to manipulate as you thought he’d be.’ Replied the second man as he walked over to the terminal.
‘That is not of my concern, Ecil’ replied the man in the chair.
‘If you expect me to get him ready for you, Dillan, then you need to let me take as long as I need. This is not something that can be rush-‘ replied Ecil, however he was cut off.
‘I am WELL aware of the speed at which things need to progress, Ecil, and do not forget that. However it is clear that what I have feared is about to happen and we can do nothing to stop it now.’
‘Why didn't you do anything sooner then?’ Ecil questioned.
‘Because, it is not our place to directly interfere with events…and before you say anything, what we have been doing is NOT interfering…it is merely aiding and speeding up the natural course of events.’ Replied Dillan, whose head was now looking sideways at Ecil.
‘Then why haven’t the Guardians stepped up to take care of things? Surely they are aware of what is happening?’
‘Oh they are aware of it Ecil…however one of the Guardians “Rules” is that they cannot interfere with events of the world.’
‘But surely this is an event where it would be allowable within their rules to interfere?’
‘Oh I agree with you on that Ecil, however they do not! The main rule they follow is to make sure that the Orbs are not used for, or by, evil. The release of an evil which may use their power, is not the responsibility of the Guardians…or at least that’s what they believe now at any rate.’
‘It seems stupid to me really’
‘Indeed it is Ecil. That is why I am having you prepare him for those two.’
‘If you don’t mind me asking Dillan, why exactly are you giving him to those two old men? Why not just train him yourself?’
‘Trust me Ecil, they may be a pair of crackpot old idiots, and trust me-they are, however they are a far better thing for him right now than we are.’
…TO RELEASE THEM FROM THEIR ETERNAL PRISON.
The two mountain climbing men finally reached their destination - it was a temple, that was located about two thirds of the way up the mountain. Its face had suffered extremely badly from the weather conditions, however it was still standing and mostly in one piece, though this was mainly because the temple had been built into the mountain rather than built onto it.
‘Incredible…’ said the Archaeologist as he surveyed the look of the outside of the temple. ‘This is incredible; the temple has actually been built into the mountain. I've never seen anything like this before.’
‘Indeed, now let me show you what I have found inside.’
‘Yes, yes of course.’ And with that both men entered into the temple. Nothing could be heard except the footsteps of the two men wondering around the inside of the temple. However after a moment the two men appeared in a circular room with a stone pedestal in the centre of it. Upon the pedestal was a sphere of glass that reflected the light of the moons that came in through a window carved into the wall opposite from the sphere. The footsteps stopped and the archaeologist started speaking again.
‘This is truly fascinating, I'll have to bring a whole team back here to explore this temple. I've never seen anything like it.’
‘If you leave that is…’ said the other man quietly underneath his breath.
‘Now let’s see what we have here…’ and with that something was picked up ‘Now this is interesting…it’s not what you thought, but it seems to be something made around the time they existed.’ Now I'll just make some notes about this and…’ the archaeologist stopped speaking, something was wrong… ‘W-what’s going on? Why can’t I let go of it?’ He started to panic. Then suddenly there was a scream that only lasted of a few seconds and then everything went deadly silent, except for a low roar that echoed throughout the temple.
In the abandoned laboratory, where the two men were watching the terminal another black tower shot out of the ground, directly behind the pair.
‘Ahh, so the final member has arrived.’ said Dillan, again without looking towards the third person.
‘Indeed I have…and it’s as we thought, he has now been released once again.’
‘I feared as much. Thank you for your assistance, Netai.’
‘It’s nothing, Dillan. Always happy to help out an old friend,’
‘Yeah, he is old isn't he…’
‘That I may be Ecil, but HE is far older than me’ replied Dillan pointing at Netai.
‘Thanks for that’ was all Netai said. For a moment none of them spoke, they just all stared towards the terminal, watching it’s display and images and information went zooming past them on it.
‘I take it then, that you both know what this means?’
‘Indeed.’ replied Netai.
‘Yes.’ Replied Ecil.
‘Then the pair of you go. He will be expecting you Netai.’
‘I know. I'm going now.’ And with that Netai was surrounded by the black tower, and was then gone.
‘And Ecil… make sure that he gets this.’ Dillan passed an item to Ecil; it was a cylindrical shape, just long enough for two hands to grasp.
‘This is for him? Will it help him to realise his powers?’
‘Oh yes, then again from what we have seen already, with the right provocation, his powers have already been realised…however he is unaware of this. As such he cannot use his powers whenever he wants to, he will need their training for that.’
‘How long do I have this time then?’ asked Ecil, waiting for the usual response…that did not come.
‘This time, wait until the last moment, he will know what to do by this point, almost instinctively. Then those two crackpot idiots can take him on from there. Just make sure they are aware of what is happening.
‘Don’t worry Dillan...this won’t fail.’ And with that Ecil also vanished within a black tower.
‘It had better not Ecil…for all our sake.’ Replied Dillan to himself, as he slumped back in his seat and switched off the terminal in front of him, surrounding him in darkness.
