My Online Portfolio

Introduction
Hello and welcome to my Online Portfolio, I am a freelance website designer, based in Dorset, UK. Primarily I am a Website Designer, with solid [X]HTML and CSS Knowledge, who is keen on learning new web technologies. When designing and building website's I previously used Adobe GoLive but now I use Adobe Dreamweaver. However I do also have extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, as well as limited knowledge of Adobe Illustrator [Previously I used Macromedia Freehand], of which I use to design site graphics and logos with.

How did I get into Website Design?
Well it must have been in about 1997 when I first started to become interested in making website's, however at that time I didn't have a clue what I was doing and it was just a bit of fun, nothing serious at all.
Being Mac based I started off using Adobe Pagemill, before I later switched to GoLive, which I used to help make my own personal website that first went online in 2002. These tools helped me to start to gain an understanding about website's and how they were coded, though at the time I didn't understand much of it - now I am able to design website's using both Dreamweaver and pure code.

How do I design website's?
Each website that I design is always built from the ground up, with no use of code from another site. The reason I work this way is because each site will have different needs, I can see no reason to re-use code that I may only end up needing to change later. However I will always build a template for each site I make to help speed up the development process. Normally when designing website's I follow a standard pattern that I have :

• First, All my website's are designed to work with a monitor resolution of 1024x768, however I normally set the site contents to be in an area between 800 and 1000 pixels, no bigger than that.
• Next I will make a rough sketch of the sites design on paper which shows the basic layout and design of the site and where everything will be placed within it.
• From this I start work in Photoshop on any graphics that I may require for the site.
• I will then create a main Index page, which will also be used as a template for all pages on the site. This page is then checked over thoroughly and made sure to be compliant with the W3C standards.
• At the same time as developing the Index page I will work on the style sheet (CSS) for the site., which sets everything from fonts and hyperlinks, to table width and size and more. Again this is also checked against W3C standards.
• Then after the sites layout and design looks how it is meant to I will then do extensive testing of the site in web-browsers available on both Mac OS and Windows, including (but not limited to): Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer (5.2 Mac/6 and 7 Windows) and Netscape. This way I can gain I good idea of how compatible the site is and if there are problems specific to one platform or both.

I have been working on my own personal website since 2002 and in that time I have expanded my knowledge on web technologies and have used this website as a testing grounds for all I have learnt so far. However recently I have started to work as a freelance Website Designer and while I may not have a huge portfolio of work, all of the website's I have done are to a high standard and meet with the client's specifications.

Please feel free to have a look at some of the projects I have made and am currently working on.
